Kāpiti Island is one of New Zealands earliest and most importand wildlife sanctuaries, located off the west coast north of Wellington where I live. It’s had an interesting history of hard work, restoration, and predator elimination, and nowdays you can join a day trip or an overnight trip to visit the birds. It’s blooming, and one of the only places I’ve seen Kōkakō in the wild!
