The South Island Kokako (distinguishable by its yellow, instead of blue, wattles) was classified as extinct a few years ago, but there have been unconfirmed sightings in the misty South Island forests...
I tried to rein in my palette for this one (tough for me!), and added a bit of smoky white acrylic over the tree silhouettes. I’ll be working on a North Island Kokako pair very soon.
The Kokako makes one of the most beautiful calls, in my opinion.
