The Kakapo and a foray into Green

Kakapo 2013

Kakapo 2013

I felt it was time to portray another rare and native New Zealand bird, and the Kakapo was top of my list. They are big, green, patterned, cute, and do not fly. There are less than one hundred and fifty left in the world. Evolving to flightlessness left the birds vulnerable when new animals and humans made home in the previously predator-free islands.

At first i was wary, not being a master of strong or apple greens . Turns out , next to neutrals and blacks, green looks gorgeous. Also i have trialled a dash of gold spraypaint; i like.

I am doing a set of limited edition prints at $90 , please email me if interested.

The original painting is now up at Quay Gallery, Napier.
