Miss philly draft sketches

I thought the draft sketches were quite amusing too.

This ones got an aged feel, kinda like old wallpaper. Its a stencil of my Mum amidst her namesake flowers, but it seems to be heading towards Creepy ! I think she wants to steal your soul.Or ask for help gardening. Or something else…

This ones for my exhibition at Baobab in Newtown next month .  Watercolour and Spraypaint as usual  !

Twitterillo

Made a wee custom twitter bird today. We shall call him Twitterillo. He has a temper.

Wykes Boys

Just finished a double portrait commission  of two handsome brothers Glen and Sam Wykes.

I think it’s my best painting of  Humans yet ! I always used to avoid drawing figures and faces, but practice and watercolour books from the library have hooked me up.  Always really difficult to capture the personality and exact look of the subject though, even if you measure out the proportions, something eludes you.

Vanitas Tamarillo cutout

This is a cool little experiment i made with the draft work of my new painting, and some cutout-ing on photoshop. Spraypaint stencil and watercolours .

Hmm, what to do with him now ? Looks like he needs a few buddies

Heron 29 2009

Heron 29 turned out to be a popular one. I created it for the Pixel Ink gallery group show ‘Animalia’ in 2009,  and it also featured in the Nov 09 issue of Her magazine, and Kia Ora Air New Zealand inflight magazine.

Its named number 29 because i’ve painted many herons !

Done in watercolour , pencil and ink on paper-covered board.

Jellyfish Crossroads 2010

The Jellyfish Crossroads was my title piece for my first solo show at Pixel Ink gallery on cuba st, Wellington.

I battled with it during painting and hid it face against the wall for a while, but it pulled through in the end. Strange beast. And it sold on the night !

Faling Through Time - dawn 2008

This one’s an experimental combination of illustration and photography from my final year at Massey University . I was exploring with concepts from the 17th century Vanitas paintings / mortality / poetry.

Its done with pencils and pens, printed acetate, a good camera, and loud alarm clock.
