Hello visitors. I’ve got a new website in progress, thus the lack of new posts lately!

I’m looking forward to having it up and running. For now, best way to check out my newest work is through the Walkerillo facebook page, here:

Wellington local Beer Label Art !

Closeup Angled Motorway label in progress

Closeup Angled Motorway label in progress

So i’ve been taste testing a bit of craft beer lately, and have been happily working on a series of little Wellington landscape labels for a great local brewery; Te Aro !  Looking forward to seeing/sampling all the bottles printed.

We got the motorway view when you first see the city on your way in; the boatshed lagoon with Mt Vic behind, and the picturesque oriental boatsheds with St Gerards Church/Monastery.

North Island Kokako Pair 2016

North Island Kokako Pair 2016

I’m quite loving working on pairs of creatures lately. These two are commissioned pieces for the same household, and a continuation of the moody blues limited palette, with a bit of smoky white acrylic in there.

And here’s a photo of the Heron piece in progress in case that’s of interest – you can see the yellow masking fluid and the semi-randomness of the watery layers. I think it looks a bit like an upside down wave.

Next up i’m thinking of doing a pair of eagles ! Hmm

Grey Ghost ~ extinct or still a mystery

The Grey Ghost (Kokako) 2015

The Grey Ghost (Kokako) 2015

The South Island Kokako (distinguishable by it’s yellow instead of blue wattles) was classified as extinct a few years ago, but there have been unconfirmed sightings in the misty South Island forests……

I tried to reign in my palette for this one (tough for me!), and added a bit of smoky white acrylic over the tree silhouettes. I’ll be working on a North Island Kokako pair very soon.

The Kokako makes one of the most beautiful calls, in my opinion.

The Wolf

Apr 12

The Wolf. I’ve been in the mood to do more masculine pieces lately – and might be going through a blue period.  This one was tricky and took me much longer than usual – i wanted him to look slightly threatening and intense, but not scary!

I am loving this slightly desaturated grey blue palette. And i used white acrylic for that smoky feeling around the edges.

This was one of my 4 pieces for the Soul Gallery exhibition in February. The original happily sold, and i am doing limited edition prints, email if interested :)

Pair of Silvereye

Jan 06

And a pop of my favourite colour, Raspberry Red !

This piece was for a group show at Inspirit Gallery late last year.  Framboise is French for Raspberry. Also, here’s a pic of my framing process, i do most of it myself – after having a builder Garth pop the simple wood frames together for me.
