The Kakapo and a foray into Green

Kakapo 2013

Kakapo 2013

I felt it was time to portray another rare and native New Zealand bird, and the Kakapo was top of my list. They are big, green, patterned, cute, and do not fly. There are less than one hundred and fifty left in the world. Evolving to flightlessness left the birds vulnerable when new animals and humans made home in the previously predator-free islands.

At first i was wary, not being a master of strong or apple greens . Turns out , next to neutrals and blacks, green looks gorgeous. Also i have trialled a dash of gold spraypaint; i like.

I am doing a set of limited edition prints at $90 , please email me if interested.

The original painting is now up at Quay Gallery, Napier.

RW at Quay

I made a trip up to Ahuriri, Napier to visit a selection of my paintings on display at Quay Gallery. They look great up. And here I am!  And then I went for Gin and Tonic to combat the heat.

Happy thanks to Richard and Sue for hosting them.

Water Dragon 2013

Water Dragon 2013

Welcome to Two Thousand and Thirteen everyone. Being on the east coast of New Zealand , i suppose i was one of the first to make it here .

I’ve got a brainload of painting ideas and projects for the year -  first of which is the Eastern Water Dragon , whom i met in the National Aquarium ; and present to you now.   He usually dwells in Australia , and can stay underwater for up to 90 minutes when hiding from predators etc. Amazing !
